Marianne Johnstone-Petty,
Flute Instructor

Marianne Johnstone-Petty has played the flute for more than 20 years. She began as a fourth grader and immediately fell in love with the beauty and musicality of the flute. She was principal flutist throughout all her years in public school.

In college, Marianne studied nursing and obtained a bachelor of science degree. She attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio; which runs in conjunction with the Cleveland Institute of Music for music and art classes. Mr. Josef Yuhos provided instruction and a great deal of guidance to Marianne in developing her flute playing for the next four years. Mr. Josef Yuhos came to the Cleveland Institute of Music from Budapest and was the principal flutist of the Budapest Philharmonic Society Orchestra.

Marianne moved to Alaska in 1999 to marry her husband and worked at Alaska Regional's ICU. In 2001, she began teaching flute with the Alaska Fine Arts Academy in Eagle River, AK. Now she has her own studio and a desire to become a more advanced instructor. She began lessons with Barbara Eberhart at the Alaska Flute Studies Center to advance her teaching and playing skills.

Marianne is married with two children of her own. She enjoys working with children and teaching them the importance and joy of music.
