Benefit Concert & Silent Auction

Flutists of Anchorage

Join Together to Aid

The Christchurch School of Music

This is a special concert to benefit the Christchurch School of Music in Christchurch, New Zealand which has been devastated by earthquakes, the worst being on February 22, 2011. Much of downtown is in ruins and the School of Music will have to be torn down. In the meantime they are struggling to keep music instruction going as it helps establish some sense of normalcy for the traumatized children. The concert will feature select soloists, small ensembles, the Arctic Wind Flute Choir and “Wind Dance” by Todd Coleman. This work for expandable flute choir will include flutists from 6th grade beginners all the way to adult professionals performing together.

The Flutists Strike Back:
A Totally Awesome Mega-Sensory Journey through the 1980s
Friday the 13th of May at 7:00PM and 8:30PM,  UAA Planetarium
Flutists Laura Koenig and Jennifer Father turn back time on Friday the 13th of May    at the UAA Planetarium.  With two shows at 7:00 and 8:30PM,  "The Flutists Strike Back" visually orchestrates flute works written in every year of the 1980s as well as pays tribute to the popular culture of the decade.  Father and Koenig have incorporated feedback from the composers on how they "see" their music, and the imagery will be as diverse as the pieces.  From "out there" contemporary sonorities to tonal but jazzy works, the evening will take the viewer through a journey of live music, planets, and perms.  Special guests: Jean Lenoir and Corinne McVee.
Tickets are $10 adults; $5 UAA students; $5 under 18
For reservations to the 7:00 PM show: (907) 332-1606
For 8:30 PM show: UAATix.com
