A poetry competition for those who love music Grand Prize: a new Gemeinhardt piccolo Secondary prizes: penny whistles
April is the United States’ national
poetry month and since 2002
Although the concept of the
competition is “A Piccolo in Your Pocket” poems are not limited to this title.
For serious flutists of any age, music is our treasure and identity that we
carry with us just as we carry a piccolo in a pocket next to our heart. In
their poems, applicants are welcome to explore any aspects of the joys of their
portable instruments and music in their lives. General
Competition Guidelines Poems of any length are welcome. Entries must be sent by mail or hand
delivered to the Alaska Flute Studies Center and received by the deadline of February 28, 2011. This will
allow for judging and for the results to be announced in time to celebrate the
United States National Poem in Your Pocket Day. Individuals requesting
confirmation of receipt must enclose a stamped, self-addressed postcard. The
judge will select the top submissions which will be printed in a souvenir
booklet with a copy for each applicant whose poem is selected. The judges reserve
the right to screen for appropriate content. Applicants
