Arctic
Wind Flute Choir - Barbara
Eberhart, Director Auditions | Rehearsals | Tuition | Concert Schedule | Tours, Concerts and Photos The Arctic Wind Flute Choir, Junior Flute Choir and Preparatory Flute Choir are part of the Alaska Flute Studies Center and members of the non-profit Turnagain Community Arts Alliance. The flute choir program is for students through grade 12. Placement is by audition and is based on ability, not age. The ensembles have a full season of rehearsals and performances September to June. Students learn repertoire from all style periods and perform in both formal and informal concerts throughout the season. The Arctic Wind Flute Choir is an elite, performing ensemble featuring southcentral Alaska’s best high school flutists. Members play on the full range of flutes including piccolo, C-flute, alto flute and bass flute giving depth and resonance to the warm tone color of the ensemble. From energetic gigues to soulful hymns, the repertoire performed by Arctic Wind Flute Choir spans the centuries. Information about auditions and rehearsals for the Arctic Wind Flute Choir, the Arctic Wind Junior Flute Choir and the Arctic Wind Preparatory Flute Choir. Auditions are by appointment only on the following dates. Students should bring a prepared piece, be ready to play scales and will be asked to do some sight-reading. Call 336-5991 to schedule an audition time.
Rehearsals are in the Turnagain Arts Building, 4105 Turnagain Blvd (Spenard and Turnagain). All music and black concert folders for rehearsals and performances will be provided. Advanced Flute Choir: Thursdays 7:00-9:00 pm - Suite V (upstairs) beginning Sept. 20. Junior Flute Choir: Saturdays 10:00-11:30 am - Suite K (downstairs) beginning Sept. 22. Preparatory Flute Choir: Mondays 5:00-6:30 pm - Suite K (downstairs) beginning Sept. 24. A full schedule of rehearsals and performances is available from the Directors. Formal Concerts: (more info.) Sunday December 9, 2007 7:00 pm Sunday, March 2, 2008 7:00 pm Sunday, May 11, 2008 7:00 pm There are three formal concerts scheduled each season, plus numerous informal performances. (more info.) Tuition is $320.00 for the school year payable to the Alaska Flute Studies Center and is non-refundable. Tuition includes membership in the Alaska Flute Studies Center. There is an additional expense of uniform concert dress. The formal dress will be the same as last season and costs $62.00. In addition, each member will purchase a flute choir t-shirt for informal performances. (Tuition is $220 for Winter and Spring Quarters.) Students need to bring their flutes, music and a pencil to every rehearsal. Members of the Junior Flute Choir and the Preparatory Flute Choir need to bring a music stand to each rehearsal. Please do not consider the flute choir as a substitute for private lessons. We will focus on learning a substantial amount of repertoire and will be stressing the essentials of performing in an ensemble (intonation, balance, blend and musical expression.) This does not replace instruction provided by private teachers. We also encourage all students to participate in their school band.
