Arctic Wind Flute Choir 2009

Arctic Wind Flute Choir
Barbara Eberhart, Director

Cait McPhee, Co-Director

The Arctic Wind Flute Choir and Junior Flute Choir are part of the Alaska Flute Studies Center and members of the non-profit Turnagain Community Arts Alliance. The flute choir program is for all students. Placement is by audition and is based on ability, not age. The ensembles have a full season of rehearsals and performances September to June. Students learn repertoire from all style periods and perform in both formal and informal concerts throughout the season.

The Arctic Wind Flute Choir is an elite, performing ensemble featuring southcentral Alaska’s best high school flutists. Members play on the full range of flutes including piccolo, C-flute, alto flute and bass flute giving depth and resonance to the warm tone color of the ensemble. From energetic gigues to soulful hymns, the repertoire performed by Arctic Wind Flute Choir spans the centuries.

Saturdday April 20, 2019    7:00 pm

There are two formal concerts scheduled each season, plus additional informal performances. (more info.)

Tuition is $450
($225 per session) for the school year payable to the Alaska Flute Studies Center and is non-refundable. Tuition includes membership in the Alaska Flute Studies Center. There is an additional expense of uniform concert dress and each member will purchase a Flute Choir t-shirt for informal performances.

Students need to bring their flutes, music and a pencil to every rehearsal. Members of the Preparatory Flute Choir need to bring a music stand to each rehearsal.

Please do not consider the flute choir as a substitute for private lessons. We will focus on learning a substantial amount of repertoire and will be stressing the essentials of performing in an ensemble (intonation, balance, blend and musical expression.) This does not replace instruction provided by private teachers. We also encourage all students to participate in their school band.
