DIRECTOR

Barbara Eberhart has over 30 years of experience as a flute teacher, performer and conductor. Her instructional style is lively and informative. Her students excel through a self-paced program with clear goals as they learn the fundamentals of flute performance and the classic repertoire. Ms. Eberhart is the Director of the Alaska Flute Studies Center and the Arctic Wind Flute Choir, a flute ensemble for students grades 7-12.

Barbara Eberhart is a recipient of England’s top teaching diploma, the Licentiate of the Royal Schools of Music with a specialty in flute instruction. She holds an M.A. from Stanford University in flute performance and a B.A. in Performing Arts from the William O. Douglas Honors College of Central Washington University, summa cum laude.

Prior to moving to Alaska, Ms. Eberhart resided in the San Francisco Bay Area where she performed extensively and was Director of Flute Studies and Chamber Music for the Mountain View Community School of Music and Arts. She conducted both the Intermediate and Advanced Flute Choirs affiliated with the El Camino Youth Symphony in Palo Alto, California (1989-1994). Her work with the El Camino Flute Choirs included an extensive performing schedule and international tours. She has performed and taught master classes in France, Australia and New Zealand and was one of two Americans to receive the Centenary Travel Grant from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London.

Ms. Eberhart served as the Artistic Director for the Anchorage Festival of Music and taught at the University of Alaska, Anchorage. During 1997-1998, she was Director of the Rwanda Project for “Women for Women” traveling to Rwanda to implement the project. She now resides in Anchorage where she is Director of the Alaska Flute Studies Center, maintains a private flute studio and directs the Arctic Wind Flute Choir. In 2006, Ms. Eberhart
received the CREATE Award for excellence in teaching presented by Anchorage's Mayor Mark Begich. Ms. Eberhart is a member of the National Flute Association and the U.S. Parachute Association. She has completed her “C” License in skydiving and her PADI Advanced Open Water Diver and Rescue Diver training for scuba diving.
